IDADISM / SHARING / DANCE / REFLECTION / FUTURE

This initial moment will be used to gather contributions for outlining and implementing the actions that will take place in 2024. We will be discussing work-related issues such as integration into the job market, the provision of appropriate training, support and sustainability mechanisms, as well as issues related to creative exercise such as physical maintenance, coping with bodily contingencies, updating artistic practices and non-hierarchical collaboration models. The aim is for this activity to really meet the interests and needs of this group of professionals, and we are therefore calling for their participation in this design phase.

Journeys 45+ aims to respond to the need for platforms that foster the reception of older professionals, taking into account their specificity, the acquisition and sharing of knowledge, with the renewed application of tools acquired throughout experienced careers in contemporary dance.

Journeys 45+ are organized in 4 meetings, focusing on the participation of artists over the age of 45, who meet with researchers in actions of reflection and artistic experimentation. In 2023, the first meeting will gather contributions, identifying areas of concern and interest. The aim is for this joint reflection to result in the planning of the work to be carried out the following year. In 2024, the three meetings will be extended in duration and number of artistic and academic participants, intensifying the space given to artistic experimentation, aiming for an organizational model that is less vertical and more conducive to meetings between peers. Several spaces will be available for dance practice, staggered so as to enable simultaneous sessions in which the artists will be distributed in groups according to common interests, crossing paths and collaborating in processes of research and choreographic experimentation, always in dialogue with the academic participations. EIRA is interested and willing to subsequently support creative projects that may germinate in this context, linking them with other initiatives, such as Cumplicidades – Lisbon International Contemporary Dance Festival. The work will be recorded in its entirety for a documentary to be made at the end of Dance Without Age, a program that is the subject of a protocol with the University of Cagliari – Department of Pedagogy Psychology Philosophy, with Diego Lasio and Francisco Camacho coordinating the academic and artistic aspects.
