Assemblage originates from the project “Sentimental Journey” that Francisco Camacho has been developing since 2017. In “Sentimental Journey”, the choreographer works in a delimited geographical area, visiting points of interest and talking to people who know the local history, habits and culture. Based on these elements, he creates a performance that is always different, sometimes accompanied by local participants. Assemblage starts from the vast choreographic material that the artist has accumulated on his travels, sharing it with a group of performers of very different generations, cultures and practices. The revisiting of these dance elements by the group does not intend to erase their original place of belonging, but to reconfigure them in a choreographic writing that opens new possibilities of meaning. Not being an exhaustive compilation of the journeys made, this new creation nevertheless wishes to expand its matrix, continuing to approach a set of questions that include the tension between tradition and modernity, the growing gentrification of cities, migration and self-care, oscillating between a critical perspective and the opportunity for humor, without losing sight of the evocation of small pleasures and the will to move forward.
