OTHER PROJECTS » RIP
The choreographer Francisco Camacho was responsible for some of the most celebrated group performances of Portuguese Contemporary Dance. “RIP” is the long-awaited piece after 6 years of research and creation of different projects other than a group piece for the stage.
This performance is both a follow-up of motives and ideas explored in his previous work and a step forward, advancing them into new grounds as well as integrating lines of research not hitherto present.
The tone is poetic yet ironic, contained while on the verge of being excessive. The partnership with filmmaker Bruno de Almeida (best director award at Cannes Festival), author of the projected film, contributes to the strong visual appeal of this challenging performance.
The ambivalence of the figures triggers moments of conflict that generate responses of compliance, resistance and destruction. Certain chromatic logics developed with the costumes and lighting are fundamental to this construction. The film by Bruno de Almeida emphasizes this ambivalence, by juxtaposition and contradiction, proposing psychic landscapes.
To readjust the gaze to the search for new possibilities of meanings is one of the conditions of existence of this work, based on introducing changes and variations, involving irony and comedy. The duplicity of the ego and the acceptance of the renunciation to a psychic life allow spaces of projection in which we can look to our inner worlds. This creation raises ethical questions on who is on stage but also in the audience. It is in this questioning that we want to inhabit in this performance.
