|THE POWERS THAT B

OTHER PROJECTS » THE POWERS THAT B
This piece begins from an 'arranged royal dance marriage'. Two great performers – Francisco Camacho (Portugal) and Tamar Shelef (France/Israel) – of a local dance scene, who also gained international acclaim, are joined together for the first time on stage. The two had only heard about each other by reputation, and they are set to “wed” in this process due to the invitation of the young choreographers - Ido Feder (Israel) and David Marques (Portugal).
Feder and Marques desired this royal artistic union, as Camacho and Shelef, respectively, are specifically associated with personal heritage and are their stage-animal ‘role models’. Moreover, this two “older” performers were direct influence, teachers and previous collaborators of the “young” choreographers. Yet, now, for the first time, the “young” commission and ask for authority so they can use their “old” inspirations as material. Those who were the generators of past desire, are now to be “made” again by the products of their influence, their artistic offspring. This factual hierarchy of age and experience and its current modification are the starting point of this piece.
In fact, the generous agreement of Camacho and Shelef to be adopted by a young government, does not take away their legislative power, but it is its enhancement. Thus, the piece will be structured for Camacho and Shelef to be free to take any decision they want at any time. However, the environment and images they will be situated in and the rules they will follow will all be strict and designed. The new king and queen will deal with the royal protocols. In this case, the protocols are established by Marques and Feder, who will attempt at fulfilling their “artistic birthright” and let “the powers that B” be.
